Overview

Cobb Commute is a Geographic Information System (GIS) based web map that displays up to date traffic conditions in Cobb County. Cobb Commute shows road construction and traffic conditions on local roads with live information from Cobb DOT’s Traffic Management Center. This is a joint project between Cobb Department of Transportation, Cobb Information Services, and our vendor Arcadis' GIS team.

There are two versions of Cobb Commute: A Desktop version, which provides two information views, and a Mobile version, which is designed to provide streamlined, traffic information "at a glance" for use on a mobile device. To access both versions, the same web link is used. This is not an "app" that you install from the App Store – it is a web page that you go to on your browser. Cobb Commute will know by your screen size which version Desktop or Mobile to use.

CobbCommute added Inclement Weather pages January 21, 2016
CobbCommute went live August 5, 2015.

Desktop Version

Cobb Commute has two available views on the desktop version:

  • Road Status
  • Traffic Speed

Provided on Both Views:

Commute Impact Areas

These are larger scale / high profile areas with planned activity that could impact commute times.

  • Hover to have Highlighted in Blue on map
    • Click to zoom to
  • More Info
    • 511 when clicked Georgia DOT 511 will open in another window to current extent

Map Navigation Tools

  • "Search for Address or Intersection" Enter address, select for map to zoom to.
  • Home icon will return map to Cobb County extent.
  • + zoom out - zoom in

Traffic Cameras and Message Boards

  • Click on camera symbol on map to see Traffic Camera snap shot zoom

  • Click on Changeable message board symbol on map to see current message

Road Status:

Restrictions and Closures

  • Listing of closure/restriction event
  • Listed Alphabetically
  • Those events in the spatial extent listed
    • Click on event to have map to zoom to
  • Click closure icon on map to get event information
  • Color coded roadway status provided and if applicable suggested detour
  • Legend specific to Road Status provided

Traffic Speed:

  • Color coded Traffic Speeds on Cobb arterials and Georgia Interstates
  • Legend specific to Traffic Speed Provided

Mobile Version

It’s best to go to the link in your browser, then send to your home screen, and access the web map application from the icon placed. See steps below for Safari (iPhone & iPad) If you have an Andriod phone this functionality is provided through the Chrome browser.

Cobb Commute is designed to provide streamlined, traffic information “at a glance” for use on a mobile device.

  • Color coded Traffic Speeds on Cobb arterials and Georgia Interstates
  • Location of Traffic events - road closures or restriction events
  • Zoom into to see Traffic Cameras and Changeable Message Signs

Map Navigation Tools

Toubleshooting

  • Website wont load: try turning device off then on and retry.
  • "Show Me Where I Am" does not work: Restart the browser and try again.

Inclement Weather Page

An Inclement Weather Page has been added to both the Desktop and Mobile versions of Cobb Commute. The pages are only visible when activated by Cobb DOT. When activated a map showing those routes that Cobb DOT treats for snow and ice are displayed. As the roads are treated the status of when last treated is displayed.

Desktop Version

  • To access the inclement weather page click the orange tab
  • Links to active National Weather Service alerts for Cobb County are provided

Mobile Version

  • To access the inclement weather page click the icon at the bottom that looks like a snowflake
  • Click on the legend icon at the bottom to see route treatment status
